Collection Drive for our Migrant Workers

By Uncategorized No Comments

Vinnie Classroom is hosting a collection drive for our migrant workers! đź“Ł

Last week, we put up an almost brand-new kettle for sale on Carousell. Joann, who volunteers with a local NGO ItsRainingRaincoats, approached us and asked if we could donate the kettle instead.

We thought it was a fab idea. The kettle will not bring us considerable wealth, so why not donate it to someone who could really use a bit more warmth in a country that’s not his home?

Joann said the workers would come and pick up the kettle. All the way for one kettle. How could we make them come all the way just to collect one inexpensive kettle right?

So if you have any of the following items in brand new or good, working condition that you would like to spare, please bring them to us before 24 October. We will gather the items so the workers can make a more worthwhile collection trip after a long day under the hot, scorching sun.

It’s the least we can do for the people who toil for us, on our behalf, to build us our homes and infrastructure. ❤️

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Vinnie Classroom!

We’re celebrating Chinese New Year at Vinnie Classroom in a big way this year! Just visit us and see for yourself! Open the door and you’ll be greeted by auspicious red festive decorations hanging from our ceiling to walls, doors and even desk-tops too! Red is the good luck color, believed to symbolize good fortune and joy. So we want lots of that at Vinnie Classroom! There are also Chinese New Year goodies and mandarin oranges to tempt you! All we need now to complete the mood would be a lion-dance and fireworks!

Chinese New Year decorationsChinese New Year is the longest holiday

Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is technically 15 days. But celebrations start on New Year’s Eve (making it 16 days). Did you know that it also causes the largest human migration in the world? Because everyone travels home for the New Year’s Eve reunion dinner which is the most important part of Chinese New Year!

Thankfully, most of us don’t have to travel far to get back home, since Singapore is so small. But we’ll be closing the school from 23rd to 29th January for teachers and students to enjoy the festivities!

Have fun everyone! And here’s wishing one and all – Happiness, Prosperity, Longevity in the Year of the Rat!

Ukulele for the Young and Young-at-Heart

Popular with the Young and Old

Why do we recommend Ukulele lessons for the young and the young-at-heart? That’s because the ukulele is arguably the easiest instrument to pick up! Some of us have had a chance to play the ukulele. Some have even strummed it randomly without any attempt at making it musical. After all, it does look like a miniature toy guitar!

In truth, the ukulele is really a fun little instrument! And very friendly on the fingers with its nice soft nylon strings. Plus it’s light and easy to carry around! And there’s no pressure on you to do anything fancy or complicated on it. In fact, when you show off what you can actually do on the ukulele, you will surprise and impress many with this unassuming yet awesome instrument!

Custom-tailored Ukulele Lessons

We can get you started quickly with song-based, custom-tailored lessons designed specifically for ukulele. Learn how to coordinate rhythm and melody as you sing along to the chords you’re playing. In addition to a variety of techniques, you will learn to read notes and chords which will allow you to play and sing along to fingerstyle, single-line melodies.

There are actually a lot of skills that transfer easily from the guitar so if you’ve been playing the six-string guitar for a while, you’ll probably find the four-stringed ukulele pretty easy! Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we will teaching it! We have also conducted workshops for corporate organisations and schools. From traditional Hawaii music to modern and beautiful fingerstyle arrangements, the ukulele offers a wide range of music to suit everyone!
